Welcome to the Dartmoor Slope Soaring Club Website
The need for a local soaring club was recognized by Stan Yeo back in 1993 and so the Dartmoor Slope Soaring club was formed. Its prime objectives were to promote model silent flight and prevent frequency clashes by lone pilots using designated sites on the moor. Since then the club has evolved and grown in strength, recently affiliating to the BMFA. The club has also embraced thermal soaring and, more recently, aerotowing.
We pride ourselves in running a very informal group and encourage total beginners and experts alike to fly with us. Within our ranks we can boast a club trainer and a qualified BMFA 'A' certificate examiner. Our year has a full schedule of meetings and soaring events designed for anyone to enter and enjoy, and you don't necessarily need a model.

Congratulations to Steve Long for winning the 2006 annual challenge trophy!
As 2006 draws to a close the club continues to thrive with plenty of soaring, pleasurable and competitive and lively monthly monthly meetings. This year we have purchased a full spec winch. At present, the BMFA site; Little Haldon, is our thermal venue but a pure flat field site for thermal soaring is still sought, please let us know if you have any ideas, or any farmers willing to talk?
Members, current and prospective, are now asked to register for 2007. There will be plenty on offer for the new season, anyone wishing to meet us and find out more about this fascinating hobby are welcome to come to one of our monthly meetings which will restart on the 2nd of January. 2nd October 2005 - Meeting this Tuesday
The meeting on Tuesday (4th October) at the Jolly Farmer in Newton Abbot will be the annual bring and buy sale.
17th September 2005 - Forum back online
The forums are now back online after being hacked for no reason. Hopefully it will be more secure this time and I am making regular backups so we dont loose any posts of this happens again.
16th September 2005 - Cross Country Competition
The club is holding a cross country competition this Sunday. If you are interested in coming along give Chris Bowels a call on 01803 851658 (mobile 07774 609655) at around 9am on Sunday to find out where and when the event will be held. The weather forecast looks good although the wind doesn't seem to have made up it's mind yet.

Flat field thermal soaring
The DSSC also enjoy flat field thermal soaring, the picture shows us on a glorious summers day in East Devon.
However, we are currently looking for a suitable field to use on a more permanent basis. Any ideas ??
